What is Google Business Profile (GBP)?

TL;DR

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the free Google product that controls how your business appears in Google Search, Google Maps and Google Assistant — including the knowledge panel, the map pack and the "near me" results.

What GBP controls

Your GBP determines: the business name shown in search; the photos in the right-side panel; the hours; the categories (which dictate which searches you can rank for); the products and services list; the Q&A; the post stream; and the review surface. Each of those is a ranking signal — and most are also conversion signals.

Common GBP mistakes

Three mistakes dominate: (1) a vague or generic primary category (e.g. "Store" instead of "Italian Restaurant"), which costs reach on every relevant query. (2) Stale posts — Google rewards profiles that publish weekly. (3) Ignoring Q&A — most owners never log in to answer questions, leaving competitors or random users to shape the narrative.

GBP optimization checklist

A healthy GBP includes: a precise primary category plus 2–9 secondary categories; a service list that mirrors your highest-margin offerings; weekly posts (updates, offers, events); fresh photos (geotagged, ideally on a 30-day cadence); a populated Q&A section seeded by the owner; and active review management (responding within 24h to all reviews, positive and negative).

How Vabrinex automates GBP

Vabrinex audits your GBP against the optimization checklist, then keeps it healthy on autopilot: AI generates weekly posts from your audit findings, schedules them through the GBP API, suggests review responses, and flags category drift when Google updates its taxonomy.
